What You’ll Need


  • A glass display case

  • Potting soil

  • Pebbles

  • Activated charcoal (optional)

  • A variety of greenery such as succulents, cacti, moss, etc.

  •  Decorative stones or any other decorations of your choosing

  • Water

  • Sunlight

Welcome Text

  • Masking tape

  • Sharpie paint pens

  • Bistro chalk marker

  • Acetone

  • A piece of paper equal to the size of your design

  • Pencil

  • Eraser

  • Measuring tape

  • Tissue paper

Our Example


  • Use the pebbles to create an even layer on the bottom of the display case

  • Add a thin layer of activated charcoal on top of the pebbles

  • Add potting soil (enough to plant your largest plant)

  • Insert your largest plant into the soil first adding more soil as needed to cover the roots

  • Plant additional greenery, moss, and other decorations of your choosing around your largest plant

  • Make sure to water your plants and store somewhere with plenty of sunlight

  • Create a mockup of your design

  • Measure the height and width your design will be on the glass display case

  • Use pencil to trace your design onto the paper

  • Place the paper on the backside of the glass and tape it in place

  • Trace your design using the bistro chalk marker as it can easily be wiped away if you make a mistake

  • Trace over the chalk marker with the paint pen

  • Use acetone to remove paint if any mistakes are made

  • Using tissue paper clean off any remaining residue from the chalk pen

What You’ll Need

  • Small fence pickets

  • Paint sticks

  • Wood glue

  • Vinyl letter stickers

  • Plastic card or burnishing tool

  • Wood stain

  • Rag

  • Gloves

Our Example:

  • Lay the pickets next to each other with the rough side facing up

  • Apply wood glue to the paint sticks and adhere them horizontally across the row of pickets to secure them together (stagger the paint sticks if they are not long enough to cover the full length of the pickets)

  • Place a heavy object on the paint sticks until dry

  • Flip the glued pickets and apply the vinyl letter stickers

  • Burnish the letters sealing them to the wood

  • Apply the stain to the wood and vinyl stickers using a rag in the direction of the wood grain

  • Once the stain is completely dry, remove the vinyl stickers

What You’ll Need

  • Foam board

  • A piece of paper equal to the size of your design

  • Rope

  • Hot glue gun

  • X-Acto knife

  • Pen

  • Scissors

Our Example:

  • Use the paper to create your template making it wide enough to accommodate two rows of rope

  • Cut the template out of the paper

  • Place your paper template onto the foam board and use the X-Acto knife to trace around the template cutting into the foam board

  • Remove the foam board template

  • Apply hot glue to the inside edge of the foam board template

  • Apply the rope along the inside edge and repeat along the outside edge until the foam board template is covered with rope

  • Trim away any excess foam board
